This week I finished my first real illustration with watercolors. It was commissioned by Tofugu.com for the banner of a new site they will be launching soon – WaniKani.com.
Below is a scan of the full painting – which is also for sale (if you’re interested shoot me an email). The half-crab half-alligator creature was envisioned by the client and they specifically requested a kaiju-style monster battle. Beyond that, I was given free reign to have fun – which I did.

Below is a larger, cropped image which is how it will appear on the site. I’ll try to grab a screenshot when it goes live. You can see some process images of the illustration in my previous blog post. It is also available as a print here.
If you like this style and you’re interested in a commission, get in touch!

Last week I created a drawing for Ads2Art Boulder. I added the background here just for fun, but the black and white drawing will grace the sides of a bike-share bike panel in the place of advertising for one year.
I’ve got some new work to show you very soon. I recently finished an original illustration that will appear in Ammo Magazine. I’m thrilled to be involved with Ammo – I’m a huge fan of the magazine and it’s an honor to have my work printed there. I was also commissioned my TAPS: The Beer Magazine (out of Canada) and will be able to show it to you as soon as they get the issue laid out.
Yesterday I noticed that I was only about 50 followers away from 2,000 on Twitter. As a thank you to all of my followers, I will be running a giveaway as soon as I hit that mark. I will be giving away one of the original drawings that was later turned into a colored illustration.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support and have a lovely Memorial Day Weekend!
I have decided that it’s time for some of my original oil paintings to find a new home. These were painted about 4 years ago and have graced the walls of Antagonist Art Movement in New York City. These were all part of a series based on actual people I encountered in New York, mostly in Washington Square Park. If you are interested in any of these paintings, get in touch and can discuss price, shipping etc. and I can provide dimensions for each.

Today I decided to post my sketch for the Montana Skatepark’s On Deck auction. I volunteered to decorate one for the auction. I’m not really into skate culture and have never decorated a skate deck, so it’s an interesting challenge.
With this one I was putting way too much pressure on myself since I knew lots of people would see it and it would be auctioned off. I’m finally happy with my plan for this circus performer happy hour. I was already excited about the illustration and then I added the drunk circus master which really brought everything together for me. Sometimes one little thing can make a big difference. I’ll be posting some process photos once it’s finished, which will probably be next week.
This year I was fortunate enough to have a friend remind me about the Postcards from the Edge benefit exhibition for Visual AIDS. Above is my entry entitled “Too Many Birds.” Here is a description of the show from their website:
“Postcards From the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of original, postcard-sized works on paper by established and emerging artists. All works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists’ signatures cannot be seen. While buyers receive a list of all participating artists, they don’t know who created which piece until purchased. All proceeds support the programs of Visual AIDS.
Visual AIDS utilizes art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue, supporting HIV+ artists, and preserving the legacy — because AIDS IS NOT OVER!”
The show will go up at the CRG Gallery in New York City. The preview party is January 7th with the benefit sale on January 8th and 9th. Get there early because once a postcard sells it’s taken down! If you happen to go, I would love to see pictures of the party since I am unable to attend.
In other news, I recently downloaded WordPress and the premium Headway theme and will start redesigning my website after Christmas. Anything in particular that you love or hate about my site? I’m so excited to unveil the new site and I’m hoping that the learning curve for WordPress is manageable!
I also have loads of goodies I’ve received from friendly, talented folks on Twitter that I still need to post pictures of, so those will be coming soon.
